Joan has a calming demeanor, an infectious laugh accompanied with a very good sense of humor…

It was purely accidental how I met Joan Landino. Sitting in a common office waiting room, Joan appeared from her confines to meet her next app’t. She was in a con jovial mood, which instantly attracted me, as I was feeling depressed. Jane, her identical twin was also present. I asked the secretary what they did, and was told counseling ; therapy. Just what I needed, but whom do I choose. Fate made the decision. Jane wasn’t accepting patients; Joan interjected that she’s the one who swears, not Jane, and I replied, thinking she was joking, you sound like my kind of counselor. As it turned out, she was and is.

She is an avid listener, doesn’t interrupt my thoughts, and in fact, she helps me remember in a subtle manner. Joan has a calming demeanor, an infectious laugh accompanied with a very good sense of humor, ( because I was a teacher, she doesn’t have to raise her hand ) , but those little moments of levity are part of the myriad of reasons which cause me to look forward to our appointments, and I must say that it’s disappointing when our time together has expired.

It’s most reassuring when you feel whatever comes to mind can be spoken without feeling any negative vibes. Joan continues to be that person I look to when I need a friendly and intelligent ear. It’s a relationship where I feel we both learn from each other, without being presumptuous.

Few among us are gifted with Joan Landino’s riotous sense of humor, and her ability to alleviating the sense of shame and the fear that clients and their families often experience…

Because the United States is adept at educating and ensuring the clinical wherewithal of its mental health care providers, competent practitioners can be found in a multitude of settings.

But few among us are gifted with Joan Landino’s riotous sense of humor, and her ability to alleviating the sense of shame and the fear that clients and their families often experience on learning of a psychiatric diagnosis.

Joan is a brilliant diagnostician who collaborates across disciplines and integrates the most advanced scientific interventions into her practice.

Joan is a humanitarian who welcomes feedback from patients and peers in order to ensure that every client, regardless of race, ethnicity, class, educational background, or profession is accepted with dignity, comforted, and guided toward recovery “because nobody stood in line to volunteer for these conditions — whether depression, addiction, schizophrenia or bipolar illness — and each therefore deserves the same societal validation, and the same high standard of non-judgmental caregiving that attends physical disease in this country.”

Some of Joan’s clients heal and resume their former lives. Some recover by rebuilding alternative futures from a revitalized foundation of self actualization. Many other integrate Joan’s extraordinary care with an enhanced personal insight and redirected life experience in order to accept the reality of a chronic illness, learn how to manage it, and thrive despite it.

Joan is a tireless mentor and advocate of recovery from mental illness.

Numerous students have attended my classes and been interns at the forensic laboratory. Many of them have been exceptional; Joan Landino is one of them…

I am the former Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Public Safety. I was the director of the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory for the past 25 years. I am also a distinguished professor at the University of New Haven as well as adjunct professor at 11 universities and law schools including University of Connecticut, Yale and Quinnipiac. I have participated in national and international trials. During my 25+ years as chief criminalist of the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory numerous students have attended my classes and been interns at the forensic laboratory. Many of them have been exceptional; Joan Landino is one of them. Joan Landino has a solid educational background having attended the University of New Haven, Quinnipiac University and WCSU. In 2001 she completed the Masters Degree Program in Forensic Science at the University of New Haven with a 3.89 GPA. In addition to completing her education she has worked for 16 years as a registered psychiatric nurse. I am very impressed with Joan’s intelligence. She is a self-motivated individual who focuses on the objective and goes forward to accomplish that goal. She has excellent qualities and I make this recommendation for Joan M. Landino without reservation.

I feel so very lucky and grateful for being referred to Joan as a therapist…

I feel so very lucky and grateful for being referred to Joan as a therapist approximately five years ago. Unfortunately, I have seen a few different therapists in the past that were not helpful at all.

Joan was such a breath of fresh air for me. I look forward to seeing her instead of a dread feeling that I remember with past therapists. I didn’t want to go and they didn’t help me. Joan has always been so nice to me. She makes you feel right at ease the moment you get there. She is very approachable and always makes me laugh (even on my worst days). Joan is very knowledgeable in so many areas. We have talked about so many different things. I am always amazed at how much she can remember, whether it’s a serious topic, the name of a drug that I might have tried, or something as simple as the name of my dog. She can always make me smile, while she is taking such good care of me at the same time.

One of my biggest problems is thought process and understanding things. Joan is very helpful in explaining things to me both medically and homeopathically. I feel like I am also able to see a nutritionist during my appointments with Joan because of the way she is so good at talking about a healthy way of living and eating. All together Joan has helped me to change my lifestyle.

Knowledge is learning something everyday. Wisdom is letting go of something everyday….

“Knowledge is learning something everyday. Wisdom is letting go of something everyday.”
(Zen Proverb)

This quote describes how Joan practices the art of medicine. She embraces what is new in science (letting go of the old) and leverages this knowledge to help her patients achieve their best self. Joan has intellectual courage and boundless personal energy that inspires those around her. Working with her has been a true pleasure.
